Overview

The first component of Phase I is the identification and analysis of current Trends & Conditions in the following areas:

Socio–economic⁄Demographics
This includes historic, current and projected population, income and employment trends.

Land Use and Development
This includes an inventory of commercial, industrial, residential, mixed−use, open space, conservation, agricultural uses and development patterns and current zoning.

Environment and Ecology
This includes floodplains, Pine Barrens, groundwater, habitat, rivers and streams, steep slopes, wetlands, coastal resources.

Infrastructure
This includes educational facilities, wired and wireless services, utility lines, sewer systems, stormwater and drainage, police and emergency services and transportation systems.

Recreational, Cultural & Historic Resources
This includes parks, playgrounds, walking trails, museums, and monuments.

Economics & Market
As part of this task, we will also identify key organizational and operational characteristics of the Town of Brookhaven. This will involve:

  • Identifying Key Town, County, Regional, and State Agency contacts related to the Town of Brookhaven.
  • Identifying & Reviewing Past and Current Planning Initiatives.
  • Identifying & Reviewing public works projects and initiatives in progress or slated for initiation at the state, county and local levels
General information and data is in the process of being collected through primary sources such as the U.S. Census, Local and State transportation and environmental data, interviews with key stakeholders and through community “Issues and Opportunities Workshops.”
Issues and Opportunities Workshops
Two community-based “Issues and Opportunities” workshops, with members of the Citizen’s Assembly and representatives from the Civics Organizations were held on October 25th and November 13th. The purpose of these meetings was to introduce the public to the scope, goals, methodology, and schedule of the project, to assess the community’s interests and concerns, and to help prioritize issues to be addressed in the Plan. Click here for a PDF of the PowerPoint Presentation from those meetings.
Deliverables
The following documents will be produced based on the data collection, analysis and outreach from the Trends & Conditions component of Phase I: These documents will be available for download upon their completion.
